Study Abroad - Scholarships
Global Citizenship Awards (Scholarships) Application Instructions
If you would like to be considered for a Global Citizenship Award, please complete all of the following steps by these deadlines. It can take several weeks to complete the entire process, so we suggest that you start early.
We also encourage you to print a copy of this page, using it as a check-list. If you do not complete all of these steps by the dates listed below, you will not be considered for the Global Citizenship Awards.
- Fall semester: 5 p.m. February 15
- Winter Session: 5 p.m. March 15
- Spring semester: 5 p.m. September 15
- Summer Session: 5 p.m. October 15
To apply for Global Citizenship Awards:
- Before completing the on-line application, you need to choose the study abroad program that is the best match for your academic and personal growth. To browse through our complete list of programs, click here.
When choosing this program, make sure that your background and qualifications are a good match. Deadlines do not permit switching programs once you've completed the application.
- Once you've chosen your program, complete this on-line Global Citizenship Awards application form. (Do not use the traditional study abroad application, found at the "apply now" button on the left of your screen. You need to come back to this screen and click on the link above to apply for Global Citizenship Awards.)
- To show your commitment to the program, pay your initial deposit as soon as possible after submitting your application (we recommend within 3 working days). Deposit must be paid by the scholarship deadline for submission of all materials. Refer to http://international.udel.edu/studyabroad/apply/instructions.html
- After you've applied for the program, ask at least one professor to write a recommendation on your behalf. Note: this recommendation should come from a professor (for Foreign Language programs, it should come from a language professor - not TA).
To be considered for the scholarship awards, your recommendation must arrive by the deadline. You will receive an automated e-mail when a recommendation is submitted on your behalf. If you do not receive an e-mail, that means that no recommendation has been received, and you should either remind your recommender of the deadline, or choose another individual to write your recommendation.
Tell your recommender to go to www.udel.edu/studyabroad/recommend and follow the link to the on-line recommendation form.
It is your responsibility to see that any letters of recommendation get into our office by the deadlines above. Please make sure that your recommender submits the form on time.
- Complete the scholarship essay form found here (note: by completing this on-line form, you will be eligible for all of our scholarship award programs). This form consists of several parts:
- a 250-word essay
- listing of activities
- listing of recognition received
- prior experience abroad
- About a week before the deadline, check your application to make sure that your recommendation has arrived.
- Right after the deadline, contact your program's faculty director or coordinator to schedule an interview. Not all faculty will require an interview, but it's best to ask. Your eligibility for the scholarship award depends - in part - on your being accepted to your program. If you schedule an interview, and fail to show-up, you will likely be rejected from the program - in which case you are automatically disqualified from the scholarship award process.
- About 5-6 weeks after the deadline, we will announce the Global Citizenship Award winners. All applicants (award recipients and non-recipients) will receive email notification.
